Join us every Saturday for a FUN, hands on exploration into different areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math! Students will take part in unique activities, collaborative challenges or create take-home projects using high-tech Fab Lab equipment like the vinyl cutter, laser cutter, 3D printers and more.
STEAM Saturdays classes are developed for students, by our talented high school instructors.

Art in Motion
Want to know how rainbows are made? Or where shadows come from? If so, we welcome all curious artists and scientists to join us in Art in Motion! We’ll explore light, color, texture and motion through hands-on art projects that help us see science in action. Want to experiment with textures and viscosity to create your own museum-worthy art pieces? Or would you rather dive into the science behind how we see colors by creating your very own color-changing light? Be ready to learn and get a little messy in Art in Motion! Led by Lee
Bug Mania
From butterflies to beetles, ants to tarantulas; the world of our tiny friends is crawling with excitement! In Bug Mania, campers will get the chance to dig into the unique lives of bugs through exciting experiments and crafts. Create your own bug habitat, eat like a butterfly and put your skills as a bug expert to use in our very own bug hunt! Whether you’re a bug lover like us, or just want to learn more about the little creepy crawlies, Bug Mania is going to be un-bee-lievably fun! Led by Lee & Liliana
Crafty Wooden Wonders
Step into a day full of creativity and hands-on fun! Campers will explore the world of wood, learning how to shape, build, and decorate their own creations. Crazy Cooking!
Have you ever created your own edible bowl? What about roasting marshmallows by using only the sun? Well, get ready to do this and more in this wacky cooking class! Holiday Maker Workshop
Holiday Maker Workshop is a festive Fab Lab class where kids get creative with hands-on projects. From designing snowglobes to building ornaments and crafting laser-cut decorations, campers will use real makerspace tools to bring their ideas to life. By the end, everyone will take home unique, DIY holiday keepsakes made with their own two hands! Led by Avni & Dakota
Little Engineers
If you can dream it, you can build it! Let’s engineer! Throughout this class, kids will explore different areas of engineering, from simple circuitry to designing and building their own cars. They’ll spark their creativity, tackle challenges, and grow their problem-solving skills along the way! Led by Riya & Nidhi
Little Potters
Welcome, future potters! In this class, we’ll explore a variety of clay types, designs, and coloring techniques… no kiln required! Using air-dry and polymer clay, campers will experiment with timeless methods of shaping and decorating their creations. Join us as we learn to shape our own world, one unique piece at a time! Magic Chemistry Quest
In an age of dragons and warriors, wizards and warlocks, young campers will step into the role of magic apprentices in our Chemistry Quest! Apprentices will assist wizards and their fellow trainees in conducting magical chemical reactions while learning the science behind how they work. This class is perfect for curious young minds who love science, spells, and a touch of medieval adventure! Led by Aashima, Michael & Elvis
Space Science
Houston, we have a solution! This class is designed for young space enthusiasts who want to explore the wonders of our universe. Kids will have the opportunity to learn about rockets, planets, and stars through a range of interactive and engaging activities. Wizarding STEAM
Join us for a day of wizarding magic where kids will use STEAM concepts to brew potions, design magical creatures, and solve mystical puzzles. They’ll dip their wands into ecology, chemistry, and engineering through interactive, hands-on activities. Not only will they create things to eat and play with, but they’ll also craft magical trinkets to take home so the wizarding fun continues beyond the Fab Lab! Led by Sivan

4-5th grade classes
Build it! Break it! Remake it!
Build, Test, Repeat! In this action-packed engineering class, kids will build disaster-ready creations and put them through shaky situations and splashy simulations. Along the way, they’ll uncover concepts like force, energy transfer, and materials science, experimenting with what makes some designs flop and others rock. Packed with hands-on fun and “structurally sound” laughs, this class proves that the best way to learn is to shake things up! Led by Aashima
Engineering Explorers
In this class, campers will brainstorm, collaborate, and invent creations to benefit all areas of society. They’ll explore different branches of engineering through challenges involving medical technologies, spacecrafts, mini cars, and more. Using the Fab Lab’s unique resources, kids will create inventions to take home while diving into edible, interactive, and educational activities that make engineering exciting and fun! Fall Maker Fest
Fall Maker Fest is a hands-on class where kids will use the laser cutter and vinyl cutter to design and craft their own fall-themed creations. Halloween Chemistry
Boo! Join us for a reactively spooky time in Halloween Chemistry class. We’ll hear candy “scream,” awaken a chemical genie, create a “ghost hand,” and more. We might even bring a (dry ice) ghost or two to life! Join us for a day of fun that’s more than periodically scary. Led by Alex
Halloween Murder Mystery
Step into a day full of spooky fun and surprising discoveries! Campers will work together to solve a chilling mystery using science, creativity, and a little bit of imagination. Jewelry Jam
Get ready to make something totally fab-lab-ulous! Use your creativity to design wearable treasures and sprinkle in a little lab magic to make each piece extra special. This sparkly class is all about accessorizing yourself to the nines with one-of-a-kind creations! Led by Elyse & Nidhi
Science of Stars
Get ready to blast off into the universe! In this class, students will explore the mysteries of space and learn about the science behind stars, planets, and galaxies. We’ll explore how gravity holds the universe together, uncover the life cycles of stars, and even dive into the mysteries of black holes. Campers will get hands-on with fun activities like modeling gravity using everyday objects, building star life cycles, and crafting mini-constellations. Through experimentation, students will begin to see how astrophysics helps us understand the vast and exciting universe around us! Led by Ariana & Rohan
Winter Break STEAM Camp (for 2nd-5th graders)

Woodworking
Grab your toolbelt and get ready for an adventure! Campers will explore the fundamentals of woodworking and hone valuable skills such as shop safety, problem-solving and teamwork as they bring their projects to life! With support from Fab Lab volunteers, they’ll use machines and tools like miter saws, band saws and sanders to construct their very own one-of-a-kind, customized wood projects. Ready to get building? 6-8th grade classes
3D Printing & CAD
Discover the future of design in our 3D Printing & CAD class! Students will have the opportunity to use CAD (computer-aided design) software and use 3D printers to bring their creativity into reality! They will learn the fundamentals of CAD and the steps of 3D design. This class is made for students who enjoy building and creating, working with technology, or want to explore potential STEM pathways. Campers will also learn skills like spatial awareness, resourcefulness, problem-solving, and critical thinking, just to name a few. By the end of class, campers will have their own take-home creation to enjoy! Led by Prabhav & Elvis
Aerospace Engineering
Take flight and explore the science of aerospace engineering! In this camp, students will learn how aerospace technology is designed, what makes for a successful flight, and how engineers test and improve their designs. We’ll explore the principles of aerodynamics, thrust, and lift, and connect them to current, real-world technology such as rockets and satellites! Campers will take part in exciting hands on projects, such as testing shapes for speed and stability, experimenting with drag and lift, and even building model rockets. By the end of the class, students will have a deeper understanding of flight and experience the thrill of designing their own aerospace creations. Led by Ariana
Architecture
Have you ever wondered how buildings stand at hundreds (and even thousands) of feet tall? How they can resist strong environmental pressures? In this Architecture class, you’ll get these questions (and more) answered, as you explore concepts like blueprinting, structural engineering, and fundamental design. Campers will participate in a series of hands-on activities using unique materials and Fab Lab machines, and will end the day by constructing their very own project using the concepts that they learned! Data Science & AI
Almost everyone has used ChatGPT, but do you know how to actually create AI? Or how it actually works? You can learn just that and more in this class! Along with making an interactive AI chatbot, we’ll analyze data about movies and explore computer image recognition. Let’s learn about two of the fastest-growing fields in STEM together! Prior experience with the Python coding language or past participation in Fab Lab coding camp is strongly recommended. Led by Alex & David
Electrical Engineering
Every time your phone buzzes or your earbuds play music, you’re witnessing electrical engineering in action! Throughout this class, we will be exploring circuitry, soldering, and electricity. Campers will even take home circuit boards that they design themselves! By the end of class, you’ll understand how the devices you use every day actually work and walk out ready to become an electrical engineer! Led by Riya & Michael
Mechanical Engineering
Let’s get physical! In this class, students will experience the world of mechanical engineering, gaining hands-on experience in building and designing for the physical world. Through a series of engaging projects, they’ll develop the skills and intuition needed to tackle real design challenges. By the end, campers will have planned, designed, and built a solution to a given problem—applying the engineering design process every step of the way. Led by Prabhav & Bella
Naval Engineering
Ahoy Sailors! Are you ready to embark on a nautical journey through the waters of naval engineering? In Naval Engineering, we will learn about buoyancy, materials, speed, and sail power. We’ll put this knowledge to the test with a series of challenges ending in a final competition to see whose boat can withstand the high seas! Raise the anchor, set the sails, and become masters of the seas! Led by Liliana & Lee
Neuroscience
What controls everything you do? Your brain, of course! But neuroscience is about more than just the brain. In this class, campers will explore neurons with a hands-on model, study the brain through a dissection and laser-cut replica, examine psychological case studies, and dive into other parts of the nervous system. Led by David & Alex
Physics in Action
Step into the exciting world of physics, the science that explains how everything moves and works! In this class, students will explore Newton’s Laws of Motion, energy, and forces while connecting these concepts to the real world. Campers will create their own Newton’s cradles to see momentum in action, investigate the physics of roller coasters by constructing tracks, and test how energy transforms from one form to another. With a mix of fun challenges, problem-solving, and creative projects, students will discover how physics powers both everyday life and the most amazing feats of engineering. Led by Ariana & Avni
STEAM Saturdays Policies & Expectations
Drop-Off and Pick-Up
Check in will take place at 9:00am (or 2:00pm for afternoon sessions) inside the main entrance located near the rear of the building. A volunteer or staff member will help you check in your child. If someone other than you will be picking up your child, please notify lab staff at check in.
You are also required to sign your child out when picking them up at 1:00pm (or 6:00pm for afternoon sessions). Again, this will be done inside the building and a volunteer will retrieve your child from the lab or classroom.
General Health and Safety
The lab and its machines and equipment are regularly professionally cleaned and sanitized with EPA-approved products.
Antibacterial hand soap is available in restrooms and antibacterial hand sanitizer is available throughout the lab for easy access and use.
Dress Code
Students should wear comfortable, fitted, casual clothing and CLOSED TOE and CLOSED HEEL shoes. Gym or tennis shoes – NO SANDALS, CROCS or FLIP FLOPS permitted. Loose clothing and jewelry are not permitted for safety purposes and long hair must be secured.
Snacks
Please pack a snack for your child to enjoy during the daily designated snack time. Snacks WILL NOT be provided. Please make sure your child brings a water bottle that can be refilled at the lab.
Release Forms
FES Step Up For Students Scholarships
Programs that qualify for direct pay include Family Empowerment Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities (FES-UA) or Personalized Education Program (PEP) scholarships. Families who intend to pay for STEAM Saturdays class(es) through their Education Market Assistant (EMA) account/Step Up For Students scholarship must enter the coupon code STEPUP when registering in the Fab Lab portal. They must then reserve the funds in EMA within 24 hours of registering. If the funds are not reserved within 24 hours of registration, the student will be moved to the program's waitlist. After the program is complete, the reserved funds will be pulled from EMA. If the student has insufficient funds in their EMA account at that time, then the family will be required to pay out-of-pocket upon receipt of invoice.
Waitlists
The registration portal has the most current information regarding open spots and waitlists. You will NOT be charged when adding yourself to a class waitlist. Students on the waitlist will be notified in the order they were added to the waitlist if a spot becomes available. We will notify you as early as possible by phone or email if there is an opportunity to move off the waitlist and include instructions on how to make payment.
Cancellations & Refund Policy
Cancellations must be made at least 10 days in advance of your enrolled class session to qualify for a full refund. Cancellations made less than 10 days from class will qualify for a 50% refund. Cancellations made the same day of class do NOT qualify for a refund. All refunds are subject to a 2% processing fee. Cancellations must be made in writing to info@suncoastscience.org or by calling 941-840-4394. Cancellations by voicemail will not be accepted. No-shows do not qualify for a refund. If your child has to be picked up early, there is no refund for class time missed.
We reserve the right to cancel a class if 8 or fewer students are enrolled. In the case of a cancellation due to low enrollment, a full refund will be provided.
Student Expectations
For each student to have a positive, safe experience in STEAM Saturdays classes, we have established the following expectations.
- Walking is our preferred mode of transportation while working in the lab! Please refrain from running.
- No food or drink (including candy and gum) is allowed in classroom or machine areas unless agreed upon with staff or volunteers. Snacks you bring will be set aside for snack time.
- The Golden Rule… Treat others as you would like to be treated! This means raising your hand to speak, respecting others’ personal space and keeping your hands to yourself, being considerate and helpful, using appropriate language, etc.
- Treat our machines and tools respectfully... like they are your own!
- There may be other programs running concurrently with STEAM Saturdays. Please be sure to stay with your group at all times.
Three Strikes Policy
To reinforce these rules and encourage an appropriate and safe learning environment, we employ the “Three Strikes and You’re Out” policy in relation to the above expectations.
- Strike 1 (Reminder): A reminder of our expectations will be given to the student.
- Strike 2 (Warning): The student will be removed from class activities for a short period of time.
- Strike 3 (Action): We will contact you to immediately pick up your child from the lab. Depending on the severity of the behavior, future participation in lab activities may be impacted.
